As a first time hearing aid user you may not know what to expect. You may be uncertain about what you are about to experience. There is nothing to worry about, however, with some patience and determination your hearing will improve and you will enjoy regaining your hearing abilities.

It is important to mention that when you first begin to use your hearing aid, your voice will sound different to you. This can be somewhat disorienting and disrupt the flow of conversation. It will take some adjusting on your part but the more you use your hearing aid the more you will feel comfortable using it. You may find it useful to grow accustomed to your voice by reciting written materials loudly to aid in this process.

When first using your hearing aids you will often feel bombarded with too many sounds at once. This can be intimidating at first, especially after having impaired hearing for a significant period of time. However, being patient with yourself and taking each day as it comes helps you slowly adjust yourself to your new, audible surroundings and learn to filter out sounds that are insignificant.

Hearing aid users may also experience a small amount of discomfort when they first begin using their hearing aids, where they may be slightly sore or sensitive for the initial couple of days after wearing their hearing aid, as a result of a foreign object constantly being in contact with their ear for extended periods of time. However, over time you will grow accustomed to this sensation and it will no longer pose a problem.

The benefits of improved hearing far outweigh any adjustment period you may encounter with your hearing aids. If at any point you are having any difficulty adjusting to your new hearing aids contact us, your hearing aid providers at Nardelli Audiology and we will be happy to help you address any obstacles or concerns.
