While adults usually do not include hearing tests as part of an annual physical exam, it is recommended that hearing be tested regularly. Scheduling a hearing test once a year around the same time as your annual physical would be a good way to make it a recurring part of your preventive health routine. Diagnosing hearing loss as early as possible is important so that it can be treated more effectively.

As a young, healthy adult you can choose to have your hearing tested every 3 to 5 years. However, certain individuals should have their hearing tested more often to confirm if there is any hearing loss or increased hearing loss.

If you are exposed to loud noises on a regular basis you should have your hearing tested by a hearing professional at least once a year. Loud noise exposure can come from your work environment, such as factory or construction work. Or exposure can come from our daily activities such as attending loud concerts, or gunfire from hunting. As you are exposed to loud noise your hearing can be damaged over time If you are exposed to loud noises you should obtain custom-made hearing protection.

If you have already been diagnosed with some hearing loss or already wear hearing aids you should also have your hearing tested by a hearing professional at least once a year. Hearing loss can be age-related, therefore, it is recommended to test for hearing loss after the age of 60 on an annual basis. Early diagnosis of hearing loss will lead to better treatment options.
